Yes, it’s real and it’s here. Go grab it! Congratulations to everyone, this is a big day for the simulation community. Now I can stop pretending that FLARE is being made for OF…
Apparently this is a leaked screenshot of Microsoft FLIGHT. It was uploaded by error and then quickly removed. The detail is incredible and the lighting is great. Some people suspect it’s fake. I think this is genuine and part of the marketing plan.
Steve Lacey was killed in a tragic car crash on July 24th. He worked for eleven years at Microsoft on projects like Flight Simulator 2000, Combat Flight Simulator 2, Flight Simulator 2004 and FSX. My deepest condolences to your wife, son and daughter.
Rise of Flight is great but WWI isn’t for everyone and it’s not a secret that I have a preference for more modern aircrafts. This didn’t stop me, however, from buying ROF. I admire what 777 Studios was able to achieve and I’m constantly impressed with their developments and support. But I can’t help asking myself what’s next. Back in July 2010, both Jason and Albert talked a little bit about their plans for the future in an interview with SimHQ.
It’s pre-mature to talk about what’s next, but we will say that the ROF Engine (Digital Nature Engine) is being groomed for bigger and better things. What that means will be announced sometime in the future. We want to be the best sim developer in the world, even if it kills us.
(Jason Williams – President of 777 Studios)
Yes, we are thinking of what will be the next step. We have done evolutionary development with our Digital Nature Engine. This laid the basis for the project architecture. Our programmers are already making plans to use DX11 to create graphics and the possibility of 64-bit systems using large amounts of memory. This course will give us the opportunity to make the next technological step, and even more surprising graphics and depth of physical modeling.
It would be interesting to create a project of another era, the Battle of the Pacific Ocean, huge aircraft carriers, hundreds of people performing their work on the deck to ensure your take-off or landing, night operations P-61, flying boats patrolling coastal territories and rescuing crews from wrecked planes, and perhaps give you opportunity to manage other military equipment.
(Albert Zhiltzov – Producer of Rise of Flight)
Yes, the Pacific could very well be the theater of their next sim. It becomes even more probable when you read about their latest developments or see some of the new features for Digital Nature Engine like the ocean shader or the different topology of the terrain.
These images really seem to confirm the Pacific as the new scenario. If this turns out to be true we will have something really big coming up next year, something that will make you forget the white cliffs of Dover.
