FPS = $$$

Here’s the deal. If you don’t want to suffer low frames-per-second upgrade your computer. Simple as that. You can’t expect to run today’s sims with yesterday’s hardware, that’s not how it works. There is no point even trying because you will never win.

When Falcon 4.0 came out we had to upgrade our computer. When OF came out we had to upgrade our computer. When the next Falcon will come out we will have to upgrade our computer. The only case where you don’t need to buy new components is if you already have a good system.

By good system I don’t mean a nuclear-powered-machine. I mean only two things. An i7 2600K (which, by the way, is cheaper than an i7 of the first generation) and a recent Radeon or Nvidia videocard with at least 1GB of memory (if you plan to install FLARE). Get them and you are good to go. If you are flying serious sims, chances are that you do it for passion. Passion is a good reason to justify the cost of an upgrade and this comes from someone who has two kids and a lot of other expenses to take care of.

If you can’t afford to upgrade then do yourself a favour and don’t even try to run a new sim. You won’t enjoy your slideshow. Wait for the right time to buy the new hardware so you will not be writing daily posts about how low are your FPS on your ancient computer. Rant over.
